Last night I was semi watching TV and my mind began to wonder. Sometimes it does that. I got to thinking about “Happiness” and the old adage “Making someone Happy” or making me happy – the more I thought about it the more I discovered. Nothing or no one “makes” me happy or unhappy. That comes from within me. I am happy within my soul. So I decided to share this information with all of you- As the year draws to a close and we begin to reflect what we might do different next year. I challenge each of you to find that happiness within. Listen to my podcast and learn some insight. Please leave comments and share and download. The more we can spread this around the more people will learn to be happy.
It is almost that time of year where we rack our brains to spend thousands of dollars on things that we think our loved ones will enjoy. After a time that chore becomes almost unbearable. So, with that in mind I am going to help you out a bit. Books are a wonderful source of entertainment and education. No, really even fiction books can and are educational. A writer worth their salt will through in things that are real, for instance Tim Dorsey who writes about my favorite serial killer Serge Storm writes about all things Florida in his over the top comedy books. He travels all over Florida to out of the way places for information for his character Serge and his sidekick Coleman.
Dan Brown who wrote Inferno, the DiVinci Code and other books also adds real places and history to his work. And of course my favorite Ann Rice fills her books with all things New Orleans. This is just three of the authors I read that I never fail to learn something from when I read their works. So with that in mind, I am going to pimp a few of my books which includes real places and even history. First off, my latest release
The Mad Hatter released this year. It has not yet appeared in print on Amazon but you can find it at Lulu.com just click on the title above this sentence. It can also be found on Amazon on kindle The Mad Hatter
It is filled with the history of Whitechapel and the crimes of Jack the Ripper even though he may or may not be the principle character.
Now if you are looking for something a bit more sinister check out Brilliant Insanity the places in the book are Savannah and Fort Pierce, Fl.
If you live or have lived in Jackson Co Ga or Jackson Co Alabama you will enjoy my book Tangled Minds
I also have a series that I co- authored with my friend Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc which are comedies – yes I write all genres, check out When Fates Collide set in Key West – When Fates Collide Mardi Gras Bound of course it is set in New Orleans and When Fates Collide Arm Candy set in St Marteen which is in the islands. In the same comedy genre I have The Pink Canary also set in Key West
Now if you are a true crime buff and are prepared to read facts not fluff check out Silent Scream This book is about the victims of Florida’s first serial killer Gerard Schaefer. It is not for the faint of heart – it is raw and brutal just like the murders. So if you don’t have a stomach for facts instead of fluff I do not recommend this book. My second true crimes is The Last Rites this was also a very brutal murder in Fort Pierce, Florida the victims Pauline Metler was raped and executed. Again if you want fluff do not buy this book – it is also raw and brutal.
If you are looking for inspiration well you have come to the right place, Pennies From Heaven no this is not a how to book on dealing with grief. It is however, the stories of others who have dealt with death and grief. It is a book that was written to show how others dealt with death and that grief is personal, there is no set time to grieve, nor is there any set way to grieve. It is a book to help bring comfort and peace.
Then I have Dream Catcher Failure Was Never an Option The true story of a man who is handicapped who has succeeded because of his handicap not in spite of them. He has used his handicap to be unique as we all should. In this world we are all handicapped in some way. It is up to us to succeed by trying instead of saying I can’t and failing.
Now if you like anthologies filled with horror I have those as well. Welcome to Your Nightmare Satan’s Holiday A Merry Scary Christmas all of these anthologies are filled to the brim with short stories, flash fiction and and poems by several different authors.
Then I have historical fiction. I know. Isn’t this great? One stop shopping for all those on your list. For those of you who do not know Silent Scream is one of my true crime books. It is the story of the victims of Gerard Schaefer Florida’s first serial killer. I just went on Amazon and Found out that Amazon is selling the book not the download for 8.44 to their Prime members. That is less expensive than the download. So if you are a prime member or have been considering becoming one. Now is a good time. You can get Silent Scream for 8.44 vs the 19.99 it normally sells for. I don’t know how long Amazon will be running this special so if you are interested to hesitate is to lose. I have added the link for your convenience. http://www.amazon.com/Silent-Scream-Yvonne-Mason-ebook/dp/B001JQLT1I/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1445432099&sr=1-3&keywords=yvonne+mason
I will agree this book is not for everyone. If you expect fluff or if you expect to read what school the victims went to or their favorite song or color or clothes, then you will be disappointed – This book talks about the horror of the deaths, what happened, how they happened and why they happened. It also is written backwards, in other words it is written from the time Schaefer was arrested for assault – So if you are thinking Ann Rule or any of the other true crime writers that write a sanitized story then please do yourself a favor DON”T BUY this book. You will not be happy. (That is my public service announcement for the Day) You have been forewarned.
However, if you want to read with an open mind and want to know what really happened to nine of Schaefer’s victims and can handle the facts and wish to honor the girls then by all means order this book.
This year has been a year of detours. Some not so good. That has left my writing on the back burner. However, things are now for the moment on a new normal road. So I have gotten back to my passion. Putting pen to paper and listening to the voices in my head. Today my new release The Mad Hatter should go live.
Behind that one I am releasing a book of short stories. Some have been previously released in other anthologies and some have been stand alones on kindle. The Question is DO YOU DARE? Do you dare read them? Do you dare take the risk of staying awake nights because you can’t sleep after reading them? Do you dare turn the page? You will not be able to answer that question until you purchase the book. Yes, it will be downloadable as well as print. It should be available in the next few weeks. So for those of you who love to delve into the unknown get ready. The unknown is coming.
Yep, just found out that The Mad Hatter will go live tomorrow – if you are ready for Whitechapel in 1888 then The Mad Hatter is for you. As soon as it goes live I will post the links. You do not want to miss this new release.
Grief! Such a harsh word even though it is only five small letters. Grief that thing that is followed by loss another harsh word even though it is only four little letters. Loss = Grief. It doesn’t matter if it is a person, place or thing. It could be a lost job, a lost home, a lost photo a lost loved one. The feeling of grief is there. It is a natural emotion – the key is to understand that it will pass. Once the shock of the loss wears off the grief will run its natural course, it we let it happen.
The sad thing is that most people allow the grief to control them instead of them controlling the grief. Marriages can be torn apart, families ripped to shreds, friendships blown to bits. Once this happens it cannot be undone. Once the harsh words are spoken, the ill feelings shown and the ugly side of death brought to the surface, it can never be undone.
Pennies from Heaven are stories by people who have suffered loss, then grieved or not. It is not a how too book, there is no such thing. It is just a book about real people written by real people. Grief comes in all shapes, forms and sizes, it can happen months even years down the road. It makes humble men, arrogant. It makes proud men humble. It makes monsters out of most of us.
It does not have to be that way. Once we understand that we do not have all the answers and never will and that there is a higher power who has all the answers and always will we can begin to come to terms with loss. Death is part of the circle of life. It is a journey into the unknown that is why we fear it.
We do not understand is that person is still with us, in our hearts and memories. When we act out and create discontent and hate we dishonor that loved one’s life. We disrespect the fact that they lived.
Instead of finding things to fight about, to spread hate and discontent about we should come together, seek to think about how others might be feeling. We should find comfort with others who are grieving. Sadly as humans we get so locked up in ourself we cannot see what is right before us. The mind plays tricks on us. Grief takes over and never leaves. Pennies from Heaven helps others to understand that grief =loss, but with time the loss is less. Not that we ever get over it. That does not happen. But if we keep a healthy mindset we can move forward, for if we don’t we cheat the life of the one we have lost.
Everyone grieves differently. But everyone does grieve. Pennies From Heaven is a wonderful gift for those you know who are grieving, a great read for one who is grieving. It is not a how to book, it is just a book to help you better understand there is no time line nor a list of directions for grief.
