Silent Scream to be on Investigation Discovery

for updated cover front2

My true crime Silent Scream has been out for seven years. During those seven years I have read many reviews on this book. Some by people who are in the law enforcement field who understood why the book was written the way it was and some who have no clue how the judicial system works, much less how law enforcement works or the psychic of Serial Killers. The second group of reviews are those who bashed the book, bashed me personally and just generally showed a total lack of respect for the victims. There were remarks, like “lack of plot” which in itself is laughable. This is not fiction folks, this is real, Girls were murdered. Not just murdered, they were tortured and murdered. There is no happily ever after at the end of this story. The book is not sugar coated, there is no “who the boyfriend was, what was there favorite color, what school did they go to.” That was not the nature of the book, the sugar coating is for those people who live in a world of rose color glasses.
There were also comments like Many a sentence begins with “It is not known whether…..” I have read under half this book, and can’t see myself finishing it.” Again I find this beyond laughable. For one these crimes happened between 1968-1972 at a time when most law enforcement believed that “Serial” was something one ate for breakfast. In other words, there were many unknowns. There was no forensic science, there was no DNA and there were no bodies in most cases and the bodies that were found were in pieces and skeletons. Those readers who made these kinds of statements apparently are very ignorant of these facts and believe that law enforcement has always had forensics to work from.
This book is written from a law enforcement angle not a layman’s angle. It is filled with unknowns for a reason. It is filled with technical language for a reason and it is filled with horror- the horror of the crimes for a reason. Anyone can read a cotton candy story of murder – anyone can read the sanitized story and not get anything out of it. That was not the reason for this book. The reason for this book was so that the readers on a small level could in an even smaller level feel what the victims endured before they died. Could feel what the parents and loved ones of the victims endured before they died and in some cases still feel because they had no body to bury.
It is said that revenge is best served on a plate cold and that is where I am with those who decided to write ugly reviews because they either didn’t understand, read with a closed mind or chose not to understand. The revenge is not only will the girls be heard they will now be seen.
When the new episodes of Most Evil come on the Investigation Discovery Channel after January, my book will be one of the episodes. Yes, Silent Scream will be shown, the ultimate evil of Gerard Schaefer as he destroyed lives will be shown to the world. That is the best revenge. Silent Scream is being recognized for what it is- a TRUE CRIME! not a fairy tale.

The Next Phase of the TV Show

These are the nine known victims of Gerard Schaefer

These are the nine known victims of Gerard Schaefer

for updated cover front2

The next phase of pre- production has begun for the show which will be shown on the Investigation Discovery Channel – The Actual show is called Most Evil. These are the stories of crimes that have been committed by some of the most evil people out there. The story is one I have been telling for seven years. That is the one of Gerard Schaefer’s victims. My book Silent Scream is that story.

Today I signed the releases and next week the producers will be down here in Florida for the interviews. It is exciting and surreal. For years I have been talking about the victims, telling their story and putting up with those who did not understand why I wrote the book the way I wrote it. Some have said it is too raw, others have wondered why I didn’t sanitize it and others wondered why I didn’t talk about what high school they went to, their boyfriends, etc. The reason is simple. That was not what they wanted me to write about. They wanted me to write about the horror they suffered at the hands of a man who had no conscious. A man who tortured and killed because it gave him power. A man who sought out his victims like most of us seek out the perfect steak at a grocery store.

Gerard Schaefer was the first serial killer in Florida and he would have continued his reign of terror if two girls had not gotten away because he got sloppy. The victims deserve for their voices to be heard and now they will be seen. I can promise this show will not be pretty nor will it be for the faint of heart.

There are more victims that just the ones who were murdered. The families, the investigators, friends and even strangers became victims of Gerard Schaefer.

For those of you who blasted me and told me this book was beneath you- who said that it didn’t tell a story, well as you can see you were wrong. For those of you who understood what I was doing and where I was going, you will want to watch this show and I will keep you informed. The girls are being heard and seen.

The Second Phase of Pre Production of the Documentary has Taken Place

for updated cover front2

These are the nine known victims of Gerard Schaefer

These are the nine known victims of Gerard Schaefer

For seven years I have worked toward not only giving the victims of Gerard Schaefer a voice, I have wanted them to be visual as well. The reason is simple. All over the internet Schaefer’s face, videos and other “treasures” are plastered like some big celebrity. He is not nor will he ever be a celebrity. He was and continues to be a monster who took the lives of innocents simply because he could. What he did was beyond the pale. He had no remorse, or feelings of guilt. In fact quite the opposite. He lived for the fame and misguided power it gave him right up until the day he was murdered in prison.

In all of this the victims- and not just those who lost their lives- but the families and friends have not only been forgotten they have been totally pushed aside. This is not the way it is supposed to be. They are to be remembered always. Silent Scream is just that a remembrance. A testimony to the fact that they lived and more so that they were so horribly tortured and murdered to satisfy the power lust of Schaefer.

Well, after seven years the girls now will be seen as well as heard. Investigation Discovery is doing a documentary about them. It will be shown on the show “Most Evil.” This is the worst of the worst of criminals and the crimes they committed. The Investigation Discovery Channel has copies of all my research as well as the book. I have been interviewed once and will be again when they come to Florida along with others who were involved with the investigation and prosecuting of the Schaefer.

There have been several people who when they read the book were not only appalled by it they hated it. The reason is simple- it is the raw un-sanitized facts of what Schaefer did to his victims. You might ask why I chose to write it so raw. That is also easy to answer. I wanted the reader to understand a small portion of what his victims had to endure before they were murdered. How one had to watch while he tortured and killed the other knowing she would be next. Schaefer used FEAR as his mental weapon of choice.

Sure I could write about what school they went to, how many friends they had or how popular they were. But what good would that have done? What kind of voice would it have given them? The answer NONE. It would have been just another fluff piece and the girls would have still remained forgotten. Once you read this book you will not ever forget them. They will stay with you whether you hate the book or love it. The girls will be forever in your soul.

My hope is that the documentary will follow that line of thinking. That it will show the horror the girls suffered, the FEAR of knowing they would die an unspeakable death. The do not deserve to be forgotten. Their life was cut short to soon because a monster believed he was their savior.

If you read the book read it with an open mind- think about how you would feel if it were your child, your girlfriend, wife, mother or sister. Think about the pain the families suffered not knowing what happened to their daughter. Some of these bodies have never been found. The families still live in limbo because they never got to say goodbye.

This is their story not mine. It is their nightmare- their pain and their deaths. Be kind to them, they deserve the kindness. Remember them they deserve the remembrance- last but not least do not judge but instead help give them peace.

The Silent Scream Train has Pulled Out of the Station

for updated cover front2

For those of you who don’t know the Investigation Discovery Channel is doing a show on my book Silent Scream the story of the victims of Gerard Schaefer Florida’s first serial killer.

Yesterday July 24th was the first interview. There are more to follow.

This story has been a long time coming. The victims of Schaefer have been silent for too long. It is now time for their voices to be heard. I have long believed that they drive this train. When it is time for them to take their story in a new direction they make it happen.

It has been seven years since the release of the book. It has taken this long for the girls to decide that they need to be seen as well as heard. They are no longer screaming silently, they have a voice and that voice will be heard.

The Girls Continue to Have a Voice

for updated cover front2

A Couple of days ago I posted that I have received a phone call from the production company that produces some of the shows for Investigation Discovery. That production company is Optomen Production and they are based out of New York. They will be here next Thursday. For those of you who hated the book, who wrote bad reviews, who said it was not worth your time. Well, while that may be so, there are still people out there who want to tell the story based on my book. They thought it was good enough- I have to say I am humbled by all of this.
I have always said that the victims drive this train. They are the ones who determine when we take a new journey. After seven years they have decided that it is time to be in the limelight. The beauty of this show is that it will be shown over and over again on Investigation Discovery as well as online. The girls will now have a voice in places they didn’t before.
To make it even better some of the people involved with this case are still alive and are willing to be interviewed. I cannot explain the feeling I have about this journey. It is humbling, it is sad, yet happy. It is without doubt one of the highlights of my life.
Those of you who have supported me who have read the book and understood why I wrote it the way I did, who appreciated the fact that it is raw, it is hard to stomach and it shows the evil of Schaefer in ways that no one else has, I am so grateful to you. You will never know how much it means that you have supported me. Supported the victims so that they will never be silent again. The girls will never be forgotten because of each of you.
I believe that all things happen in their time and it is now the time for the girls. They no longer scream silently they have a voice.
What an honor to be a part of something so important to them.

The Victims of Gerard Schaefer Have Taken Their Story to the Next Level

for updated cover front2

Silent Scream my first true crime has always been very close to my heart. It is the voice of the victims of Gerard Schaefer who were long ago forgotten. This book has raised many voices of both controversy and praise. Some have hated it because it is raw and it does not sanitize the horrific torture and murder of the victims nor does it glorify Schaefer. It shows him for the monster he was, it shows how the girls were tortured and murdered and even after death tortured even more. I refused to compromise on this book. It is written from an investigative mindset. The reason is simple that is what the girls wanted.

Yes, you may laugh and say how would you know they are dead. That is true, but when I say this is what they wanted it is very true. As I started this book,I tried many ways to write it but it would not flow, when I gave up and just let them write their stories it flowed.

Gerard Schaefer was Florida’s first serial killer before Bundy or Rolling however, he never received the kind of fame the other two did, he always hated that. He wanted to be known for his acts of horror but yet he denied it without denying it. It was a game to him. He thought he knew how to beat the system to get away with his little game of horrors. The girls are speaking out now. They are no longer without a voice.

I got a call on Thursday July 10, 2014 from the Television Channel Investigation Discovery, http://www.investigationdiscovery.com/ they will be at my house on July 23rd to interview me about Silent Scream and the girls. They will filming a show about the victims and Schaefer. This has long been a dream of mine that the girls would be heard by the masses, that their voice would be heard and that they would no longer be forgotten. They had names, they had dreams, they had families and they had lives. Those lives were cut short way to soon. They did not deserve any of that, the least we can do now is remember to allow their memory to live so that the universe will know they were here.

Another dream is that this book will eventually become a movie, I do not know if that will happen or not. The girls will tell me until then, think good thoughts and help us to get the word out that the show is coming.

The Pink Canary is Now Live on Barnes and Noble Nook Book

The Pink Canary

For those of you who own a Nook The Pink Canary is now available on Nook!!!! This is one little book that you don’t want to miss. Yes, it is a murder mystery but it has a kick. It is more like Abbott and Costello meet the killer with a few side characters tossed into the mix. Just for fun.

The one and only Vicky Lane says it best:

“There are bodies piling up in Key West…. Serial Killer?  The bodies showing up outside a famous drag bar….is that a clue or a coincidence?  A book that delves into the Life of a Drag Queen and a marvelous “Who done it?”  Clever! Let’s go into their world of Mascara  and Stiletto Heels and observe. Who could be killing all these gay men and why?

Yvonne Mason is the master, or mistress, of mystery in this rip roaring, fishnet stocking twisting comedy mystery tale. This story could very well could have really happened as Yvonne Mason connects this story with some undisputed truth and history of NYC underworld and the “World Famous 82 Club”… it just might have happened, see for yourself…

The local detectives and cops go on a case that has been haunting the head detective and the main character since their days in the Big Apple. Does the detective has a love/hate relationship with the Drag Queen or is it a lot less Hate and more Love than admitted? Exciting and Hilarious! Who will be next on the list of murder?

The story is as seen through the main character’s eyes and what eyes they are!  Lou the mild mannered detective by day and Lola a FABULOUS drag queen by night who can get into all kinds of trouble!! How her friends try to help her find the killer and catch the monster behind these unspeakable murders.

I have been a Drag Queen for over 40 years and this is the first time I have been asked to collaborate on a book. Drag Queens are my speciality and I have worked in Cabaret shows since 1968 as well as extensively in Musical Theater, Television, Radio and Films. I really was excited and honored to help with the book and this book was an ultimate thrill for me.Thanks toYvonne Mason for her faith in me, and for having the insight to choose me to help her navigate this drag queen world. Thanks to Peter for his energy and Marvolous Wit…We will always be connected with this superb Book! ”

Vicky Lane

The Pink Canary Is At The Editors

The Grand Canary

The Pink Canary is now at the Editors for the final go over. I have three editors who are working on this book. The first editor is checking for grammer. spelling, etc. You know all the little things that we writers manage to screw up on a regular basis. The second and third editors are making sure that my venture into the Drag Queen world is spot on with the correct language and naunces that they use.

This little book has been a challenge. The reason is simple. I have never traveled this path before. When I started it, I like most people knew only the surface of the world of Drag Queens. Like everything else I do, I did my homework. I researched everything I could from body language to makeup to dialouge to culture. Yes, boys and girls, they do have their own culture. I met some amazing people along the way one in particular is Vicky Lane. She performed for over 40 years in New York and Canada. She has become not only a window into the Drag Queen world but a wonderful friend.

My friend Peter who along with Vicky have become characters in the book. If you have never been to Key West, (one of my favorite places in the world) you need to go at least once in your life. The atmosphere is charged with an electricity like no other. The people are laid back and most are artist of some sort. This is where the story is set.

If you have never been to a Drag Queen show, you have no idea what you are missing. Drag Queens have been around since the beginning of time. As the years have flown by they have perfected their craft. Most of them are quite good. They spend hours designing and making their clothes, they have impecable taste and they are some of the funniest creatures I know. Their sense of humor is to die for.

In fact in  The Pink Canary bodies are piling up like cordwood. I should have put a disclaimer in this book that I am not responsible for wet clothing as you read it.

The Pink Canary is yet anothe comedy (yes I can write comedy) that came to me quite by accident. My friend was typing on her phone that she had seen a pink camaro and it typed out Pink Canary. When I heard  that I knew there was a story. But it had to be funny. You see the two main characters a New York Detective and Lola have a history. So when they meet (after several years of not seeing each other ) over yet another dead body, the old chemistry sparks. The back and forth dialouge between these two characters and the other secondary characters keeps one turnig the page. Things are not always as they seem as it is in the world of Drag.

Bodies pile up, personalities clash, and humor runs amuck. This is a book for anyone and everyone.
