New Podcast is Up

Well, this morning was a morning of reflection and soul searching- true soul searching. Especially when I found a bit of prose by my friend Andrea Dean Van Scoyoc The title of the prose found in her book Strange Brew is called “I haven’t Changed” as I read it because I was looking for something to grab each of you for my newest podcast, it hit me. This described me to a T. I have changed – I have changed and morphed in ways I did not fully realize. Talking about the lightbulb going off over my head. So that bit of prose became the basis for my podcast “Change Within Ourself” – You see if we don’t change and grow especially after a loss, then we stagnate and die. So I am going to give you a direct link to this podcast and get you to listen, please leave comments- I love feedback on my podcasts- since it is not live radio- I don’t know what you all are thinking. Here is the link, check it out it is downloadable and sharable. It is also on itunes and should be on stitcher, if you have it. That is if they haven’t screwed it up like they did several of my podcasts. Maybe they will get their act together and fix it soon. Anyway, I got off track, here is the link please go and listen, share and keep sharing. Change is not always a bad thing. Change Within Yourself

This is the link to a Radio Show I was on In September

On September 28th I was on a local radio show in Cocoa, Florida. The name of the show is Seeta and Friends. We talked about many things including my books. The main conversation we had concerned dealing with grief. I lost a granddaughter and my dad all within six weeks of each other between July 2nd and August 10th – The odd thing is I was called on a Sat that my granddaughter was being transported and I was called on a Sat that my dad was being transported. It gets even more strange. My granddaughter was transported on the same date as my sister had entered the hospital for the last time four years ago. My granddaughter died on the same date as my sister died four years earlier.
When I got the call that my granddaughter was not going to recover it was on a Monday. Again on a Monday six weeks later I got the call that my father had died. Strange? Coincidence? I don’t think so – There was a plan. Anyway we discussed death, grief and loss among other things on this hour show. You can also read about my sister and our loss with her in my book Pennies From Heaven

Also listen to the show. If you are grieving due to loss, I think you will get something out of it. http://www.mediafire.com/listen/zg5a79of3n6vtmb/Seeta_2015-09-28.mp3

Grief!!!!!!!!!!

Pennies From Heaven

Pennies From Heaven

Grief! Such a harsh word even though it is only five small letters. Grief that thing that is followed by loss another harsh word even though it is only four little letters. Loss = Grief. It doesn’t matter if it is a person, place or thing. It could be a lost job, a lost home, a lost photo a lost loved one. The feeling of grief is there. It is a natural emotion – the key is to understand that it will pass. Once the shock of the loss wears off the grief will run its natural course, it we let it happen.
The sad thing is that most people allow the grief to control them instead of them controlling the grief. Marriages can be torn apart, families ripped to shreds, friendships blown to bits. Once this happens it cannot be undone. Once the harsh words are spoken, the ill feelings shown and the ugly side of death brought to the surface, it can never be undone.
Pennies from Heaven are stories by people who have suffered loss, then grieved or not. It is not a how too book, there is no such thing. It is just a book about real people written by real people. Grief comes in all shapes, forms and sizes, it can happen months even years down the road. It makes humble men, arrogant. It makes proud men humble. It makes monsters out of most of us.
It does not have to be that way. Once we understand that we do not have all the answers and never will and that there is a higher power who has all the answers and always will we can begin to come to terms with loss. Death is part of the circle of life. It is a journey into the unknown that is why we fear it.
We do not understand is that person is still with us, in our hearts and memories. When we act out and create discontent and hate we dishonor that loved one’s life. We disrespect the fact that they lived.
Instead of finding things to fight about, to spread hate and discontent about we should come together, seek to think about how others might be feeling. We should find comfort with others who are grieving. Sadly as humans we get so locked up in ourself we cannot see what is right before us. The mind plays tricks on us. Grief takes over and never leaves. Pennies from Heaven helps others to understand that grief =loss, but with time the loss is less. Not that we ever get over it. That does not happen. But if we keep a healthy mindset we can move forward, for if we don’t we cheat the life of the one we have lost.
Everyone grieves differently. But everyone does grieve. Pennies From Heaven is a wonderful gift for those you know who are grieving, a great read for one who is grieving. It is not a how to book, it is just a book to help you better understand there is no time line nor a list of directions for grief.

We Never Know Our Impact on People

Today I was in Cocoa, Florida doing a radio interview on Viewpoint with Seeta. http://www.seetamediainc.com/ The show was an hour long and we talked about many topics. We discussed my books and my background. Then we got down to the heart of the matter. We discussed grief, dealing with grief and loss and the new normal after a death. For those of you who don’t know I lost my 13 year old granddaughter on July 2, 1015 and six weeks later on August 10th I lost my father. It was a tsunami of loss and grief in a short time span. There was not time to grieve for the baby before we were traveling back to Atlanta to bury my father. That is the back story. I had previously written a book along with several other authors titled Pennies From Heaven. This little book holds stories from people talking about how they dealt or did not deal with loss. It is not a how to book, but a book to help someone cope and move forward.

Pennies From Heaven

Pennies From Heaven

When I got home I found this note on my facebook page, from Seeta the host of the show “Thank you for your continued support of our radio show Yvonne Mason.I wanted to let you know someone whose son passed away six months ago wanted me to let you know you helped her to let go of bottled up grief today.God truly sends angels when we need it♡”

Talk about humbled. I was truly humbled. After the show Seeta and I were talking and we both said, that is doesn’t matter how rich or poor one is, we all will be in the same place on day, that is death’s door. The important thing is the DASH between our birth and death dates. What we do to give back, how we behave, how we love and how we help others. That is what we will be remembered for- not how rich we were, not how much money we gave
away, not how poor we were not the clothes we wore or the car we drove, But the mettle of our character. I for one do not want to be weighed and found wanting. I wanted to be remembered for one thing, “She made a difference.”
I do not know the name of the lady that contacted Seeta, but I know that she was touched by the show. My prayer for her is that now she finds the peace that passes all understanding and that now she can celebrate her son’s life, to be grateful for the time she had with him, not bitter for the loss she suffered. That she will honor his life not mourn his death. Because I am sure he made a difference.

Another Author Who has Written About Grief

Emerging Voices

Emerging Voices

I have just had the honor of reading a book by Laurel D Rund who lost her husband of many years. She wrote this little book to help her through the process of grief. She used her own artwork and her own poems to grieve. She has gone one step further and added places that one can write their own feelings and emotions as a journal entry.

She pours her heart and soul into her writings and art. One can plainly see the different stages of grief she traveled through as she completed her journey. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has suffered loss.

Pennies From Heaven Receives its Second Five Star Review

Pennies From Heaven

Pennies From Heaven

Sadly death and grief do not come with a set of instructions and most people are blindsided when death visits them or the ones they love. Pennies from Heaven is not an instruction book on how to grieve. That would be like saying we all get to a destination by the same route. It just doesn’t happen. People grieve in many different ways. No one can tell another person that “I know how you feel.” No we don’t know how they feel. Their emotions are different from our own. We can only empathize with them – We can understand the grief but we don’t know how they feel.

Pennies from Heaven is compiled of stories from many different people from all walks of life who have lost someone they love. They all grieved differently- and it was neither right or wrong- it was just grief.

The second five star review for Pennies From Heaven  was posted last night and the reviewer said it the best:

“5.0 out of 5 stars A MUST HAVE for grieving!!! July 1, 2013

By Peter fundora
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
This book proves that grieving has no right or wrong way of doing it.
Everybody has different ways of dealing with death.
And this book proves it.This is a must read!!! Highly recommend this book.”
If you are grieving or know someone who is this book may help you understand that your grief is okay. The way you are grieving is okay.
The people who have contributed to this book reached way down deep into their hearts and souls and poured everything they had into writing their stories so that it might help someone else to heal. They gave unselfishly and willingly in order to help someone else.
This book is now available on Kindle and Nook and Lulu.com In about six to eight weeks it will be available in paperback on Amazon and Barnes and Noble. You can also order directly through me by emailing me at ysam51@yahoo.com
It will be the best money you ever spent!

The First Review on Pennies From Heaven

The first reviews for Pennies from Heaven are appearing on Amazon. Horror Author Thom Futrell has put pen to paper after reading Pennies from Heaven. Thom got it. He understands why this book is so important. He gave this book a five star rating and highly recommends this book for every household. Death does visit each and every one of us if we live long enough.

“Pennies from Heaven is a book that I think no family should be without. Death walks through the living room of all of our lives and leaves a bit of himself as he leaves. These are stories of people who had to face death, and are willing to share those experiences so that no one has to feel alone in the world. What I took from this book is, we matter. All of us, every person on this Earth and every minute we have with them is precious and should never be taken for granted. My heart goes out to the people who had dealt with loss and to those who will in the future. Know this, no matter who you are, you are not alone”.–THOM FUTRELL, Author of Empty Graves

Pennies From Heaven – They do Speak to Us

Pennies From Heaven

Pennies From Heaven

My newest release Pennies from Heaven has been released through Lulu Publishing. It is now up on Amazon Kindle and Nook and will soon be available on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

This book involves several people who have graciously agreed to reach down inside their souls where no one else goes to write their stories of loss and grief. The stories are as varied as the people who wrote them. Some of them are faith based – some are non faith based- many ask the question of why- a couple are about precious pets which have gone on to Rainbow Bridge.

Each of us grieve in different ways- sadly some of us never grieve- we cheat ourselves by not grieving and we also cheat those who have died. We do not allow them to become a memory nor do we allow them to help us heal. We spend time in denial with no way out. This shortens our life- our mental outlook and destroys our physical being.

When we don’t grieve and then accept their death- we cheat those we have lost. We cheat them of the life they lived and we cheat them of their love for us.

It was my goal when I put this book together to help at least one person who may be grieving- to show that no two people grieve the same on in the same way and that there is no right or wrong way to grieve. The important thing is to grieve and then heal- then live.

Pennies From Heaven – Soon to be Released

Pennies From Heavan

Pennies From Heavan

Pennies from Heaven is at the editors and will soon be released. This book was written with the intent to help anyone who is grieving – it is not a book that is based on any type of “medical” jargon or what you should or should not do. This book is stories from every day people who have experienced death in different forms. Who have grieved on different levels and in different ways. While there are stories that are spiritual based it is not necessarily a spiritual book. We have left it to the reader to find their own level. There are stories where the one left behind feels and sees the loved one who has gone on. There are stories of pets who have died and the grief that was caused. There are stories of young people who have died and left behind their parents to pick up the pieces. There is a story about what I call the slow death of hell, a parent who suffers from Alzheimer’s and the grief that begins as the disease progresses, the guilt that follows. There are stories of multiple deaths in one family as family member after family member seems to follow each other in death like an angry ocean crashing on the rocks. There are stories of children losing their parents way to soon and the missing piece that follows their lives.

Our hope is that at least one person finds comfort, strength and the ability to heal after reading these heart wrenching stories. The authors of these stories have reached deep down in places that no one ever goes in order to write them for others. They are written in pain, love and grief so that others might find the courage to heal. Learn from them – know there is no timeline for grief- but also know that if you do not grieve and do not move forward you have cheated the person you grieve for of the life they had and you have cheated yourself of their memories which are forever with you.
